Horizontal Vessel Sizing

Determine required vessel dimensions for a target retention time.

Required Seam-to-Seam Length

0.0 feet

*Calculated based on cylindrical volume (excluding heads).

Gas Capacity Check

0.0 ft/sec

Liquid Retention Length:

$$L = \frac{Q_{(bpd)} \times t_{(min)}}{1440 \times A_{liquid}}$$

Gas Capacity (Souders-Brown):

$$V_{max} = K \sqrt{\frac{\rho_L - \rho_g}{\rho_g}}$$
Vessel Design Concepts

The design relies on balancing two primary physical forces:

  • Liquid Residence:Providing sufficient vessel length for the liquid to remain calm, allowing gas bubbles to break free and escape to the surface.
  • Gas Velocity:Ensuring the gas speed in the upper section of the vessel is not high enough to "entrain" or carry oil droplets downstream (preventing carry-over).

Note:The K-factor used (0.35) is the industry standard value for horizontal separators equipped with a Mist Extractor.
